Terms of Use
Effective October 17, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Make Living Soil LLC ("we", "us") for the Living Soil app and makelivingsoil.com. By using either, you agree to them.
Using the app
We give you a personal, non transferable license to use Living Soil on devices you own or control, for your own growing. If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
A reference, not a guarantee
Living Soil is a general reference for mixing soil and using fertilizer. It is not a substitute for the label on the product or a soil test. Always follow the directions on the product label and the safety guidance in the app. Soil, water, climate and plants vary, so results are not guaranteed.
Handle fertilizers, sulfur, lime and other materials with care. Keep them dry, labeled, and away from children and pets, and never mix bleach or pool chlorine with fertilizers.
Products we name
Where the app or this website names a product or a company, the recommendation is made in good faith. We do not make, sell or control those products, and we are not responsible for their quality control. Even the best companies can have problems with a product, and products can change over time, for example a new formula or less product in the same package (shrinkflation). We will update our recommendations when better options appear or when a product we name gets worse. Always read and follow the label of the product you buy.
Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google, or with an email address and password. An email account must confirm its address before it can spend credits or receive the free recipe. Keep your account secure: anything done while signed in is treated as done by you. One free recipe is offered once to each new account and device; creating accounts to collect it more than once is not allowed.
Credits
- One credit unlocks one recipe or blend on your account. A growing guide that holds two or more mixes of its own takes two credits. A lawn grass guide takes 4 credits and includes the feeding plan for one soil type you choose; feeding plans for other soil types are 1 credit each; the app shows the price before you confirm. Anything unlocked stays unlocked for as long as your account exists.
- Credits never expire. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred or sold, and can only be used in Living Soil.
- One credit also opens both calculators for 7 days.
- Credit packs are one off payments and never renew. Payment is charged to your Google Play or Apple account when you confirm the purchase, or, in a web browser, to the card or payment method you give on Stripe's payment page.
- If a purchase is refunded, the credits it added are removed. If those credits were already spent, the most recently unlocked items are locked again until the balance is back to zero, each one returning the credits it cost, and never more.
- Feedback credits: after trying the free recipe, an account may be offered credits for telling us privately how a mix worked. They are given once per account, have no cash value like all credits, are not offered to accounts flagged or paused for review, and the offer can change or end at any time. They reward private feedback to us only, never a public rating anywhere.
Plans
- The monthly plan adds 10 credits every month. The annual plan adds 200 credits every year. Both open the calculators while they run.
- Plans renew automatically at the price shown in the store unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Google Play or Apple account. A plan bought in a web browser renews automatically at the price shown on Stripe's payment page and is charged to the payment method you gave there.
- You can cancel at any time in your Google Play or Apple subscription settings, or, for a plan bought in a web browser, from Manage your plan on the credits screen there. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Credits you already have, and every recipe you unlocked, stay yours.
- One plan at a time: while a plan is running on your account, another cannot be bought in the browser.
- If you allow notifications, the app reminds you a month before and a week before the annual plan renews.
Refunds
Purchases are processed by Google Play or Apple, and refunds follow their policies. You can request a refund through the store where you bought. We do not refund credits or plans bought in a store directly.
Purchases made in a web browser are processed by Stripe for us. Credits are digital and are added to your account as soon as the payment is confirmed. When you spend a credit it is used up, and the recipe it unlocked is yours. To unlock more, replenish your credits with another pack or a plan. To ask about a refund for a browser purchase, write to roots@makelivingsoil.com.
A browser purchase refunded in full removes the credits it added. One refunded in part removes credits in proportion to the amount refunded, rounded up. One disputed with your bank removes them while the dispute is open, and they come back if the dispute is decided in our favor. Credits already spent are handled as in the store refunds above.
If a browser purchase is disputed, we may give Stripe and your bank the purchase record, your account email and a record of the recipes your account unlocked and opened after the purchase, with their times and internet addresses, as proof that the credits were delivered and used.
Our content
The recipes, text, drawings, calculations and design of Living Soil are ours and are protected by copyright. You may use them for your own growing. You may not copy, scrape, republish, sell or build another product or service from the app's content, in whole or in substantial part, and you may not use automated tools, scripts or bots to access the app or its server. Scraping or bulk downloading is not allowed. Recipes you download carry an invisible mark that identifies the account they were downloaded to, and the number of unlocks and downloads in a short time is limited.
Ending an account
You can delete your account in the app at any time. An account showing signs of fraud, abuse, automated access or copying may have new unlocks paused (held) while we review it; recipes already on your phone still open during a review. We may close an account used for fraud, abuse, automated access or copying the app's content. Where we close an account that did nothing wrong, we will say so and help you through your store's refund process.
Changes to the app
We may add, change or remove recipes and features. We aim to improve the app, but we do not promise that any particular recipe or feature will remain available.
Disclaimer
Living Soil is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, and we do not warrant that the app will be error free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of plants, crops or property, arising from use of the app. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 6 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we will update them here and change the effective date at the top. Using the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, except where the law of your country gives you rights that cannot be waived.
